RTE are one of the few remaining public service broadcasters in the EU that do not provide FTA. One must buy into the SKY platform to recieve RTE channels. The failure to provide FTA has continually been covered by claims of copyright limitations etc. How do other National Broadcasters manage to operate?

RTE broadcast into Northern Ireland via analogue & digital and via Sky with EPG.
BBC broadcast (can be received) to the whole island of ireland via Astra 2D.
So therefore RTE have no rights problems in Northern Ireland except the odd sport event that is blacked out. BBC have no rights issues with spill over. Neither should RTE.
I got a call last night to say DTT tests were available in Dublin and the North East. The uncertainty and old tech approach to this project makes a call for FTA via DTH satellite a very viable call.
