whats the story bebo

you send me three emails from friends. you say

Please confirm story about XXXX

Brian

xxxx has written a story about how you know one another. Please click below to confirm this story:

http://www.bebo.com/confirmstory/xxxx
8<

but when I go to that page there is no story. I’m asked to write a story! and If i want to see a story my friend wrote about me I’m to go to their page and go into the friends tab. I do this for the three emails bebo sent me and no f’ing story.

Somewhere bebo users have ticked a TICK BOX and bebo thinks this constitutes a story and is worthy of sending me an email to confirm the tick box. I know how I know my friends, they know how they know me, they ticked a box I get some daft email to confirm a non existing story, is this good? No.

Get a life bebo. Your ‘email all your friends an invite’ was way too aggressive a year ago. your growth rate needs further aggression and it annoys me. I also dislike the bebo bug that lets unkowns befriend me as they took a quiz of mine!

bebo you should open up. be more RSS friendly be the best open SNS on the block. open to broader design skins by users. Better self publishing tools, better advert self selection. Not more aggressive growth behaviour.

end of rant.

political blogs

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Tom Raftery asks where to find good political blogs. he doesn’t say irish political blogs but as we have an election coming up and we’re in Ireland, I scratch my head; there is Joe O’Toole senator & podcaster.. but to have a political blog thats not about the footpaths etc. some of the establishment party’s would be found wanting in the blogosphere. wanting an ideology transplant to look different to the others. Many a budding Cllr. will blog and climb the greasy poll to hang posters amounting to 15MB of fame, but is it blogging? or wanting to me in a medium that just about anyone who can hold a mouse can also use? like needing a web site for the 1997 election? or the 1999 locals? in fact i would think that a website is of more use to most candidates versus a blog, as its a bit late to gain on the power of blog to SEO to rankings. buy a nice domain, like dublinnortheast.com and start printing.

in order to have enough things to bring to blogging, the politicians should consider bringing them self, the hard working hack who has not got their hand in the till while everyone thinks they are all at it, a bit of the personal touch would be nice. to this end one example of this would be ex TD of WP & DL now Labour Cllr. Eric Byrne.

But if its ideas you have, and stories and campaigns and ideology you have to shift, then nothing beats the printed word. One such party that still produces its own newspaper in Ireland is the Socialist Party. the militant / the voice / and now called ‘the socialist’. If these guys start blogging (not including me) then i’ll take notice. [paper on sale on this page €2]

its a new book by David Rice. as I run the blog for shut sellafield i was sent an advance copy..

Synopsis [amazon]
Father Frank Kane, filming a TV series on “Great Catastrophes in History”, grows convinced that people on the verge of extinction, as in Pompeii, consciously ignore all the signs of their impending doom. In Ireland, Garda Det-Sgt Stokes keeps encountering references to a shadowy figure called Omar. A young Saudi Arabian disappears from Ennis hospital, and later his body appears in a trawler’s fishing net. In Leeds, journalist Meg Watkins is assigned to research Freshpark Nuclear Plant in Cumbria. Initially impressed, she gradually grows horrified at its safety record. Meanwhile, Sheik Aboud is secretly training terrorist pilots to fly hijacked planes into Europe’s nuclear plants, using flight simulators at his walled County Galway residence. Gradually, Stokes closes in on the sheik as he feels some catastrophe is pending. So does Fr Frank Kane, for different reasons. And Meg Watkins is convinced that terrorists are going after Freshpark. Convergence comes when both Kane and Stokes hear Meg say on a TV talk-show that terrorists could hijack a plane out of Ireland and fly it into Freshpark. But it’s all too late. Omar has been in Co Galway all the time, as a respected citizen, and now does precisely what Meg had feared. The consequences are horrific…

atom2html code in perl

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

19 outa 20 blogs I own are WP, the other is blogger. I hold a blogger to stay in touch with the past :-)

many a client has one too. and some of these clients like to have side bar links in their websites to their blogger blog posts, on every other page of their website.

to this end a simple atom2html script by Stephen K. Anthony was used.

When blogger users choose New blogger over old they do not realise that the atom is shifting also. A quick fix to the atom2html.pl by me is here to share with you,,,, I have kept the old method for you old blogger heads who wont upgrade.

To blogger heads that did upgrade, welcome to 2002, from the WP users in 2007.

the perl script is here no warrant(y) blah blah blah.. but if you improve on it pass it on and pass it back. hope this saves someone half an hour… example of use http://www.doop.ie/podcasting/index.html
